There’s a certain beauty,
In her rustic appearance.
She lives an arduous life,
With grace and endurance.
She knows not extravagance,
Knows life’s true essence.
She’ll save for the future,
Yet live knowing death is closer.
She speaks with the wind,
That portrays her every mood,
Calm, turbulent, bad and good,
Tumultuous sometimes, sometimes it soothes.
Dauntless to face every obstacle,
Discerning, careful, ever so skeptical.
Do not misjudge her for a prisoner.
She’s a free bird, a nomad, an explorer.
No man can hold her down.
Like sand she’s swift and unbound.
She’s the queen of the dunes,
Of the blazing sun and gleaming moon.

I must say, there’s a hint of sexism there. But I appreciate the underlying theme of rebellion.

I’m curious what in the poem the commenter above thought had a “hint of sexism” about it—was it the bit about “no man can hold her down”? Is that sexist? I don’t find it sexist. It is in fact an acknowledgement of the power of men!Also, strong, spirited people, male or female, can’t be held down by anybody lol
